Limited Edition Music Book Printing | Night Divides the Day: The Doors | Imago Group
When Genesis Publications set out to create the definitive tribute to one of rock music’s most iconic bands, they needed a print production partner capable of matching the ambition of the project. Night Divides the Day: The Doors Anthology, created to mark the band’s 60th anniversary, is a 352-page, multi-edition collector publication, recognised by Forbes Magazine as one of the 19 great music books of 2025.
Imago Group managed the end-to-end production of two distinct editions: a Collector Edition of 1,650 numbered and signed copies, and a Deluxe Edition of 350 numbered copies, each housed in a bespoke handmade clamshell box. Alongside the books, Imago coordinated production of the collector packaging, accompanying brochures, 7″ vinyl storage, cotton book bags, and custom-numbered mailing cartons.
This is one of the most ambitious limited edition music book printing projects Imago Group has produced and a stunning example of what is possible when expertise, materials and print knowledge come together.

What made this Music Book Printing project different
Night Divides the Day presents The Doors’ archives in a way never seen before. With unlimited archive access granted by the band, Genesis Publications assembled hundreds of rare photographs, historical ephemera, vintage instruments, handwritten lyrics, and nearly 50,000 words of archival interviews interwoven with commentary from Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Robby Krieger.
Contributing voices include Van Morrison, Slash, Nile Rodgers, Nancy Sinatra, Krist Novoselic of Nirvana, and maestro Gustavo Dudamel. The anthology was limited to just 2,000 numbered box sets worldwide, each signed by John Densmore and Robby Krieger.
The ambition of the content demanded a physical object worthy of it. That is where Imago Group came in.
What sets this Music Book Printing Project apart
The cover use Melavir apple leather, is a thin, eco-friendly vegan alternative to traditional leather. It is manufactured by combining food waste, specifically dried apple peels and cores from the juice industry with synthetic polyurethane (PU).
The 352-page text block is printed 4/4 throughout on 200gsm matt art, with machine varnish applied. The separate endpapers use 160gsm uncoated woodfree, also printed 4/4.
Section sewn binding throughout, with a square back spine and 3.0mm boards with no padding. Head and tail bands and a ribbon marker were added to all copies.
The clamshell is a three-walled construction on both lid and base. The outer wrap is printed imitation cloth with a sealer varnish; the liner paper is 140gsm kraft, printed in PMS or self colour. Foil blocking on the front and spine of the box ties it visually to the book inside.
For the Deluxe Edition clamshell, an additional board layer was added to the lid. The circular die-cut to house the 7″ vinyl is cut into the lid itself, the vinyl sits flush, held in place by the die, the lid closing cleanly over it.
The five art prints in the Deluxe Edition are printed 4/0 on 350gsm matt photo archive paper. Each print has a blind deboss applied to the front from a file supplied by the publisher, and each is individually numbered 1 to 350 in pencil, matching the style and position specified. They are housed in a 140gsm self-colour kraft paper envelope with a slit closure and foil blocking on the front.
The numbering consistency across every component: book, prints, envelope, mailing carton label, was a key logistical challenge. Every element leaving the factory had to carry the same number as every other element in that box.
Every edition ships in a brushed cotton book bag sized to fit the clamshell, silkscreen printed in one colour with a contrast drawstring.
The mailing cartons are four-walled with impact-protective corrugated reinforcements on all sides. The closure overlaps on the front and is sealed with tape. A separate carton size was produced for the Deluxe Edition to accommodate the additional prints. Each carton carries a 4-colour label, approximately 65 × 50mm, numbered to match the edition and individual copy number of the books inside.
