Climate Neutral Printing from Imago & ClimatePartner

We are all working towards reducing our carbon footprints and cutting emissions in line with international targets. To this end, and as part of our ongoing commitment to our industry-leading sustainable printing and production policies, Imago are delighted to offer you and your end customer access to climate neutral printing options and products in co-operation with leading climate protection solutions provider, ClimatePartner.

How Does Climate Neutral Printing Work?

Cog Icon

Using ClimatePartner’s print industry-specific tool we can calculate the emissions of individual print projects based on factors such as raw materials, production process, and transportation.

The emissions can then be offset by supporting internationally certified and audited carbon offset projects such as afforestation or the replacement for fossil fuel technologies. By supporting one of these projects, you can offset the carbon emissions of your print order.

You obtain full transparency through the climate-neutral label featuring a unique ID for your order. By entering the ID at www.climatepartner.com you can track your carbon offset in a transparent and easy-to-follow manner.

The Principles of Climate Neutrality

Products are termed “climate neutral” when their carbon emissions have been calculated and offset by supporting recognised carbon offset projects. In addition to avoidance and reduction, offsetting carbon emissions represents an important step in comprehensive climate protection.

Greenhouse gases like CO2 disperse uniformly throughout the atmosphere, which means the concentration of greenhouse gases is approximately the same all over the planet. Thus, the location on Earth where emissions are generated or saved is irrelevant when it comes to the global concentration of greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect. That is why emissions that cannot be avoided locally can be mathematically offset at another location.

How do climate neutral offset projects work?

Climate neutral offset projects demonstrably save greenhouse gases through activities such as afforestation or renewable energies. Independent organisations such as TÜV, SGS, PwC, and others check the exact volume saved. The project operator can finance the project through the sale of certified emission reductions. Only projects requiring additional financial support are recognised as carbon offset projects.

Criteria for climate neutral offset projects

In addition to saving emissions, carbon offset projects have to meet four fundamental criteria: additionality, permanence, exclusion of double counting, and third-party auditing.

Choosing a Carbon Offset Project

When Imago and ClimatePartner joined forces to offer our customers carbon-neutral print solutions, we looked in detail at the many projects and initiatives that ClimatePartner support. We wanted to offer our customers a simple choice when it came to offsetting carbon on their project and opted to choose, as standard, the afforestation projects in Rio Kama, Nicaragua.

This project contributes to 13 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and is rooted in the protection of forests, which has particular resonance for us at Imago.

If you wanted to opt to choose an alternative initiative, you are more than welcome to do so, and the supported projects can be found within the ClimatePartner portfolio. Simply inform your Imago representative of your choice.
