Sustainable Jigsaw Puzzle Manufacturing
At Imago, we’re always keen to explore any options to ensure your jigsaw puzzle is produced as sustainably as possible. We have options to use plastic-free packaging, paper envelopes for the pieces, or even cloth bags to hold them in.
As with all of Imago printed products, we can make them FSC using all FSC products allowing you to use the FSC logo on your packaging.

- A well-manufactured jigsaw puzzle should be one that holds together when made up, and you should be able to hold a completed jigsaw up by the corner piece and it should stay together!
- Jigsaw puzzles should also be comprised of individually unique pieces

We have worked closely with giftware & stationery wholesalers Otter House for many years, producing their extensive jigsaw puzzle collections for sale directly to retailers and charity organisations across the world.
Jigsaw Puzzle Manufacturing Shapes & Sizes
We can produce a 1,000-piece jigsaw at the standard size of 480mm x 680mm, and we can do a 500-piece at 340mm x 480mm. We can also manufacture circular jigsaws, square jigsaws, jigsaws with 25 pieces, or even jigsaw games or books incorporating jigsaws into them.
We’re here to advise on standard formats and materials in each manufacturing location so that you can take advantage of existing dies.
Custom Jigsaw Puzzle Production
We can also produce custom-made puzzles, but the need for a tailor-made die adds a little to the cost and you may find you need to produce more copies to get the unit costs to work.
With access to the technology to create completely bespoke jigsaw puzzle pieces, we can incorporate different shapes into your jigsaw design too.
We can supply your jigsaws in one of our standard-size boxes – or incorporate your designs onto bespoke boxes too.
Jigsaw Puzzle Manufacturing Process
Although it is not essential, as part of our normal process we would always produce a verification sample prior to final production to ensure the pieces all fit together perfectly!
This is especially useful if you are producing a jigsaw with irregularly shaped pieces as the fit becomes even more important. Our production offices are very experienced in overseeing the process and will make sure everything runs smoothly.
Jigsaw Puzzle Books
A variation on the theme – jigsaw puzzle books! Board books which incorporate several puzzles are really popular as activity books for younger children.
Finger holes can help little fingers access the pieces are advisable, however, in this example of a jigsaw book, which ultimately produces a large floor puzzle, the pieces are simply pushed out from the back of the page and placed on the floor.
Safety Requirements
Jigsaws puzzles for children must comply with the EU Toy Safety Regulations and we have much experience in this area too.
In fact, any jigsaw manufactured with less than 500 pieces will be classed as a toy and will need Toy Safety Testing – which we can do for you!
Lead Times
These can vary dependent on the complexity of the jigsaw puzzle you want to produce but as a ball-park, 3-4 months is typical including development and sampling.
Packaging Solutions for Jigsaw Puzzles
When it comes to making boxes for your puzzle, if you have the budget, the options are endless!
From a regular two-piece box, to a book-shaped box or even a round hatbox style, there are so many options to consider. However, we’d always recommend having thumb-cuts on the lid for easy access.
As standard, we insert the jigsaw pieces into a polybag prior to packing, we don’t want any missing pieces!
