The training takes place at the Diamond Print Bindery. Learn the theory of binding from expert Peter Wright and then see a bindery in action to consolidate your newfound knowledge.

What will I learn?

  • Increase your binding knowledge and know-how 

  • Understand the range of binding terminology and what it all means

  • Learn what is the most appropriate binding for different products and how best to spec it up

  • See the processes first hand and gain an understanding of why some styles and finishes are more expensive than others

  • Learn what is best practice and what to avoid

  • You will look at some of the more unusual binding styles such as Otto binding and Naked binding to help give you ideas for your projects

  • We also show you how best to check advances and spot the sorts of things that might go wrong

  • We will teach you all about binding terminology and enable you to look at a book and quickly spec out the most appropriate binding and finishing required.

  • You will learn the pros and cons of different binding styles, what is best practice and what should be avoided.

What skills do I need for this course?

This is an entry level course, so no previous experience is required. Suitable for anyone working in the publishing industry particularly production staff & designers

Peter is the owner of Diamond Print Services Ltd. He has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in binding and his passion for the process is contagious.

This subject is brought to life by Peter’s enthusiasm and knowledge – he know more than there is to know about Flexi and Perfect Bookbinding, Thread Sewing, OTA and Swiss Bookbinding as well as Cutting, Folding, Saddle Stiching, Die Cutting and Creasing. Phew!
