Will a no-deal Brexit have any effect?
The short answer is that no-one really knows, but Imago is acutely aware of the potential problems that would be caused by a no-deal Brexit and has been in active consultation with those who are likely to be dealing with those issues on our behalf, namely our freight forwarders. Here are a few steps we are taking to minimise any negative fall-out in the case of the UK leaving the EU without a deal.
- In the event of a no-deal Brexit, our Freight Forwarders will evaluate what is the best option on a job-by-job scenario. Factors here might include, import and/or export declarations when goods ’touch’ the UK – alternatively marking goods as ‘in transit’ if goods flow through the UK. An example of this already applies when we print in Turkey (outside the EU), transit through the EU with a custom’s waiver, before passing on to, say, the US which is outside the EU.
- So in this case, we can ship through the EU (as shown above) and then ‘pass’ through the UK with appropriate permit arrangements (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/commercial-road-haulage-in-the-eu-if-theres-no-brexit-deal)
- What we will need to evaluate specifically is if there are delays occurring at UK border entry and exit points, in which case, our Freight Forwarders have the option of shipping entirely within the EU (i.e. bypassing the UK).
- In summary, Imago itself cannot make any any contingencies, but it is working actively with its freight forwarders to ensure that they are abreast of the latest developments and can provide the most cost-effective and/or expedited form of transportation as required.
